Selm are slippery, aquatic creatures found in underground waterways and flooded caverns. They resemble Earth's salamanders in many ways, but they are much larger, and display complex social learning. In the wild, Selm live in small groups, and communicate by flashing their bioluminescent markings. They have incredibly keen eyesight, and use their own light to navigate. Researchers attempting to approach wild Selm often end up stunned by intense flashes of bright light, and once their eyes have adjusted to the dark once again, the creature had already vanished into a deep pool of water.
Selm are omnivorous, feeding on any non-gem-based life they can fit in their mouths, whether it's plant, animal, or fungus. Fortunately, they are too small to eat a researcher. Captive specimens are very trainable and playful, and do better in groups, but the cold water they require to stay healthy is not much fun to enter without an insulated wetsuit.

Neon was once a being known as a Terror Beast, creatures from other dimensions who tend to linger around both humans and other planets to achieve their own goals.
Neon's favorite places always had bright lights, mostly in rainbow colors, and it enjoyed running amongst the top of the buildings, basking in their glow. It still remains out of sight, however, and avoids contact with any mortal creature.
Despite this, Neon has a rather playful and curious personality. However, it doesn't have any combat strategy, and this is what caused it to become easy prey for another being - of whom then captured Neon and used it for evil purposes.
Eventually, Neon was turned into a being of darkness, and all light was drained from its usually bright markings. Its personality became twisted and cruel, clouded by its fear and hatred toward the being who misused it. It struck the being, but was ultimately unable to defeat them and otherwise tried to escape.
Neon was saved by the Creator, also known as the God of Terror Beasts, and eventually stripped of its dark half. It was then sent into another planet, far from the being who tormented it, and the same being was said to never be seen again after this rescue.
Eventually, Neon was rediscovered and became even more powerful, but not due to darkness - Instead, the bond it shared with another being changed them both for the better, and they fused into a single entity, using both light and darkness to fight back evil.
